Saturday Writing Challenge (SATWE 9/1/12) Using prose or poetry, write a ghost story.? It can be fiction, nonfiction, or a personal essay regarding ghosts.? It can be about something that you actually encountrec, a combination of something that happened to you and you?re just adding something to it for fun, or it can be just a ghostly story that has no basis in reality.

Wednesday Writing Challenge (WWE 9/5/12): Write in any form you desire, a love story (or anything else). ?The only real rule is that is must involve a death valley.

Thursday Writing Challenge (THUWE 9/6/12):Create a post on being remembered.? It can be a personal account, tribute or a rant.? This is entirely up to you.? Include the words ?Being Remembered? somewhere in the title

I Believe in Ghosts.? Do You?? (Being Remembered - A true story)

My friend Margaret was dying.? She had cancer and was spending her last days in the valley of death at home in her own bed. Friends and family were taking turns sitting with her until it was over.? It was my turn to spend the night with Margaret.? There was a large comfortable chair in the room next to her bed that I slept in throughout my night?s watch.? Early the next morning Margaret woke me up singing.? She loved the old church hymns that we all sang at our local church on Sunday mornings and was singing one.

When Margaret noticed that I was awake she asked me ?Did you see her??

?Did I see who? I asked?? Margaret?s reply sent chills down my spine.

?Joyce?, she said.? ?She paid me a visit last night, at first I didn?t recognize her because she was all grown up and she looked so pretty.? She just glowed.? I kept looking as her trying to figure out who she was and she asked me ?Mama, don?t you recognize me, it?s me, Joyce.? and I knew it was Joyce. She told me she was visiting me because she didn?t want me to be afraid and that I would be seeing her again real soon and not to worry that everything was going to be okay.? Then she went away.? It was so nice to see her so well and happy and I?m excited about seeing her again.?

Margaret went back to sleep and two days later she died.

I believe she saw her daughter Joyce.

Joyce was twelve years old when she was killed in a school explosion in the mid-30?s and surviving that kind of grief was a real accomplishment.? I asked Margaret once ?How do you survive the loss of a child?? It has to be the most awful pain in the world.?? Her answer has always stayed with me, she said ?You think you are going to die but you don?t.? Some people do not know that there is a physical pain that occurs with heartbreak.? The heartbreak for my child is still there but with time the physical pain in my chest eventually eased.?

Joyce died forty years before my friend Margaret died and I firmly believe that Joyce paid her mother a visit the night I was asleep in the big chair next to her. ?I believe Margaret?s daughter came and escorted her across the valley of death so she wouldn?t be alone or afraid.? I will never forget my friend Margaret she was loved by me and many others. I also learned on that long ago day that when children die they continue to grow to maturity in heaven.? Joyce died as a child and returned to escort her mother across death?s valley as an adult.

Do you believe in ghosts?? I do.
