After 'Limbo,' game makers return to disturbing territory

2 hrs.

"Limbo" was one of the surprise hits of the 2010 video game year. A black-and-white game?made by a small team from Copenhagen, it played out in nothin'-fancy 2-D style as it wended its way through the surreal, often scary tale of a boy trying (and repeatedly failing) to traverse a very eerie place indeed.

It was a little game that became a big hit. It made many Best Game of the Year lists and was certainly one of my favorite games of 2010. And earlier this week at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference, the Mac edition of?"Limbo" was given the Apple Design Award.?

And so today brings us exciting news -- the team that made "Limbo" has revealed their newest project called ... well ... "Project 2."?And though "Project 2" (the working title) is not a sequel to "Limbo,"?it appears the developers at PlayDead will be revisiting some eerie, if not downright ghastly, territory.

Revealing their new game to The Danish Film Institute,?the folks at PlayDead say their game is again a 2-D puzzle platformer (though this time in color) -- one?that tells the story of "one boy's struggle against evil forces who, through questionable experiments on human bodies, are trying to take over the world."

You heard right. "Questionable experiments on human bodies." Sounds like we can expect more creepy goodness from PlayDead.

Meanwhile, according to the blurb on the Danish Film Institute site, the team is working with a million dollar budget, which is probably a whole lot more dough?than they had for "Limbo." And be sure to check out the concept art at the top of the page.

Though no release date has been announced, "Project 2" is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
