This will no doubt be a bittersweet Christmas?only the second in my lifetime I?ve spent without my precious grandfather?but we?ve all been embracing the holiday spirit nonetheless.
In typical Luna spirit, this means no dearth in parties.
This year?s annual tacky sweater party doubled as the local Young Professionals? holiday fete. What says professional like our officers dancing down the makeshift runway in reindeer sweaters and mullets?
For two straight weeks, we had SVV?s family in?first, his parents, and then his sister Lisa and her husband Chris (and a new baby girl in Lisa?s belly!)?and after they all left, I continued the ongoing party with a day on the set of?Nashville?as an extra and a night at the Grand Ole Opry with my mom. Last week, we had our Wine and Appetizer Club party and White Elephant swap. (This is just an excuse for a bunch of local girls to get together monthly and hang out and meet newcomers to the area.)
On Saturday night, my parents hosted an ornament swap engagement party for my sister?s friend Megan. Of course, SVV and I didn?t miss the opportunity to eat cheese balls and Christmas cookies and drink bourbon.
And then our first annual Festivus went down last night. And it went down hard.
This was really just a holiday dinner we planned with some of our best friends, Tom and Ginny and Mallory and her son Gabe, and then we decided the occasion was going to be Festivus (for the rest of us), and then what do you know, the night we had picked for the party actually the day Festivus is celebrated. Kismet.
There was hot buttered rum and there were costumes and there was an absolutely delicious meal prepared by Ginny?and there was karaoke.
The karaoke in particular was pretty hysterical, but for the sake of your ears?and the reputations of the people present at the party (ahem, me)?I am choosing to omit any audio evidence of such.
Tonight, we will continue the annual ritual: Christmas Eve service at my parents? church, then a party at our friends house before visiting my former neighbors, Beverly and Joe, and heading home to watch It?s a Wonderful Life. Tomorrow, we will open presents, just the five of us, and then hop over next door to visit with our other family, the Bratchers. Later this week, we will drive to Memphis for a few days of quality time with my cousins (and the two cutest kids on the planet), and then onto Florida to see even more cousin (and the cutest baby on the planet). Never a dull (or slow) moment here.
And that?s our Christmas month in a nutshell. I hope yours is just as swell!
