Jason Mecier's Big Bird Breakfast Cereal Mosaic Debuts After Mitt Romney's Presidential Debate Comment

Mitt Romney on Wednesday night unleashed a fury across America when, while speaking at the first presidential debate of 2012, he said would stop the subsidy to the Public Broadcasting Station even though he claimed "I love Big Bird."

Moments later it seemed there was no where you could turn without seeing the famed "Sesame Street" character or hearing his name being dropped. An 8-year-old Big Bird fan wrote a scathing letter to Romney, a new account, @FiredBigBird, popped up on Twitter, and a version of Shepard Fairey's famous "Hope" poster premiered with the word "Help" written beneath the beloved feathered character's face.

Now artist Jason Mecier, most famous for his celebrity portraits made out of trash provided by the stars themselves, is adding his own whimsical take on the controversy.

His most recent creation, a mosaic made completely out of children's breakfast cereal, debuted on Friday and features Big Bird waving an American Flag.

Mecier is no stranger to ruffling feathers. In the past the artist has raised eyebrows with "pill portraits" of dead stars, like Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse, who were plagued by substance abuse problems. He told the Huffington Post, "I couldn't spend hours and days working on an art piece if I didn't care."

Below, view a slideshow of Mecier's incredible portraits. For more info and art from Mecier, visit his official website.
